Today's Progress

Today was actually a light day for me because I was able to recruit my aunt again to help paint. When she was here yesterday, we decided that the original wall color was not white enough, I actually felt it was more of a cream color. My vision was to have the top have of the wall a crisp white. So after taking her car to the shop, we headed to Lowes for paint. We got the Valspar brand in "ultimate white," which is suppose to be their brightest white. Well, I love it. It gives the room a crisp new look, atleast I hope because before we painted it I sent my mom a picture message of one of the walls and she thought we had painted the upper half a light green. Well, it is now a crisp clean white. I also painted the closet doors (my aunt did one coat on them and I did the other). It looks nice. Hopefully you can tell in these pictures. If not, just ask you can come over to experience it yourself if you would like. Note: The walls are painted the same color as the closet doors (the far picture to the right is of the closet with the door in it. To the lower right you can see a patch that I painted. So you can somewhat see the difference in the original wall color and the new crisp white). Also the closet door is inside the closet which we will be installing the new closet organizer next week after the floors are done.

Here is my 170 sq feet each of base boards and "chair" rail -

So what you ask is left to do:

  1. Pull out old closet organizers nails (Dave - I tried I am not strong enough)

  2. Rip up carpet and pull out tack strips (Dave with some of my help)

  3. Prime and paint "chair" rail (it's going to be a bright pink!)

  4. paint baseboards white

  5. Have floors refinished

  6. Have dad install "chair" rail and baseboards

  7. Purchase Chloe a new dresser and chest

Not to shabby, I think we are coming along great. Especially if you compare it to the nursery, It was only finished about a week before Chloe made her debut. I think we will have a good month before this one makes her appearance. So you are probably asking why I keep putting "chair" in quotation marks. Well I am somewhat anti-chair rail. Originally I wanted to just paint a horizontal stripe around the room. But with alittle persuasion from my aunt, it was decided this was the easy way to go. But I didn't want the normal decorative chair rail. I just wanted a piece of wood that would look like a stripe, nothing fancy. Well the wonderful man at Home Depot (yes I venture to both) helped me pick out a piece of finishing wood that was 1 3/8" by 1/4". I think it will be perfect and I should still be able to anchor the furniture to the wall. It is alittle smaller in width than I wanted, I was hoping to find something more like 2-2.5 but it will work. I am hoping it give the room (as my aunt said) "depth."
